3Sixty Insight’s Announces Winners of the 2021 Transformation and Leadership Case Study Awards

Boston, MA – June 10, 2021 – 3Sixty Insights today announced the winners of several awards for the ability to lead and transform organizations in exceptionally strategic and successful ways. Based on evidence from the related 3Sixty Insights case studies highlighting these leaders’ agility, creativity, and drive to persevere through challenging times, winners were chosen for three awards: Best Cultural Transformation, Best Digital Transformation, and Inspirational Leadership.

Best Cultural Transformation – Awarded to Alex Smith, Chief Human Resources Officer for the City of Memphis: About five years ago, Alex Smith joined the City of Memphis to lead human resources there. Memphis had been struggling with a lack of employee engagement and high employee turnover, and the newly elected mayor at the time hired Smith as part of an overhaul to the way the City did business—from a conventional, municipal model, to a model emulating the private sector. Through Smith’s transformation of the HR department, including overseeing a migration from an on-premises Oracle installation to Oracle HCM Cloud, Memphis has seen a dramatic shift in its employer culture as evidenced by significant increases in employee satisfaction and retention. For example, the City has saved more than $6 Million in a reduction to police and fire department-related attrition, a more than 40 percent improvement to the municipality’s Glassdoor ratings, and a 14 percent increase in overall employee engagement.

Best Digital Transformation – Awarded to Stephen Arena, HR Director for Key Training Center: When Stephen Arena joined Key Training Center to lead human resources at this nonprofit for the developmentally disabled, the organization was using very little technology for HR. A significant underutilization of isolved, the cloud HCM technology Arena inherited, had contributed to several inefficiencies that brought with them a major administrative challenge in ensuring compliance with employment law and impediments to focusing on and cultivating employee potential. With Arena’s leadership, Key Training Center saw a dramatic digital transformation, eventually placing much of the HR department’s function under the auspices of the isolved HCM suite. In turn, Arena turned his attention to simplifying the benefits and payroll process and developing new training and compliance programs to improve the overall employee experience.

Inspirational Leadership – Awarded to Nicole Roberts, Vice President of People & Culture for MVAH Partners: Nicole Roberts joined MVAH Partners, an affordable housing development and management company, just as lockdowns related to the COVID-19 pandemic became widespread. She immediately lobbied leadership at MVAH to expand her new role to encompass leadership not only of HR, but also of internal communications. Roberts’ quick thinking provided MVAH Partners’ employees with much needed guidance and support as they dealt with changes throughout the pandemic. For example, as part of the executive team, they recognized that appreciation was not one-size fits all and offered both additional paid days off as well as a differential on pay to thank staff for their hard work and dedication as the pandemic disrupted their day-to-day working environment and logistics. Simultaneously, by quickly pivoting to functionality from Paycor and SparkHire, Roberts radically transformed the recruiting process at MVAH to adapt to new realities and boost retention. Regularly vocal with her knowledge and thought leadership in industry events, communities, and social media channels, Roberts earned the Inspirational Leadership Award for her acumen, strategy, and ability to keep a siloed team cohesive and productive.
