What You Need to Know When it comes to hiring, there are several different approaches you can take. You can post a job listing and wait for applications to come in. You can reach out to your network of contacts to see if anyone knows a good fit. Or, you can go through your company’s roster of former employees and see if there’s anyone you want to bring back into the fold. Of course, there are many other approaches, but let’s focus on the idea of former employees coming back to work. In a recent LinkedIn survey post, I asked, “Have you ever hired a former employee?” It was surprising that 76 percent responded with “yes, it was a great decision.” These respondents are from […]

3Sixty Insights #HRTechChat with Larry McAlister, talent and transformation expert, and founder of The Corporate Humanist Consultancy
This is my first time hosting an HR Tech Chat and my first guest is Larry McAlister! My colleague Brent Skinner included me on HR Tech Chats before – Talent Management – It Will Blend and 3Sixty Insights Shares its Takeaways from the HR Technology Conference & Expo. We are going to make a regular practice out of sharing our big ideas, and he has encouraged me to host my own HR Tech Chat too. I am so grateful for this opportunity! When I first met Larry, our professional paths intersected at NetApp and Fuel50, I was struck by his passion for helping organizations transform their talent and culture through the effective use of technology. It is not surprising that he recently published a book […]
Will We Be Attending Work Events in Person or Virtually Going Forward?
Over the last few years, we’ve all become quite accustomed to attending conferences virtually. While there are some advantages to this (no expensive travel costs!), there’s nothing quite like being in person to learn and network. Fortunately, it looks like live conferences are making a comeback. Just to name a few … HR Tech, Unleash, Cornerstone’s Convergence, Fuel50’s FuelX, etc. But not everyone wants to go back to in-person events only. According to a recent LinkedIn poll I conducted, the highest percentage of people want to attend work events in 2023 offered as hybrid (58%) versus in person (39%) or virtually only (3%). Hybrid was popular because you can choose to attend in person or virtually based on your budget, preference, and schedule. Live conferences […]
Who Owns Internal Mobility?
The business world has experienced rapid changes in the way work is done. The advent of new technologies and the globalization of markets has led to a more competitive and fluid workplace. This has necessitated a change in the way companies view their talent. Internal talent mobility has become a key factor in success, but who owns internal talent mobility? Talent Acquisition? Talent Management? Employees? Manager? A few weeks ago on LinkedIn, I posed the question “who owns internal mobility?” The results confirm that it isn’t clear – 6% of votes are for Talent Acquisition, 41% of votes are for Talent Management, 32% of votes are for Managers, and 21% of votes are for Employees. What is most interesting about these results is if you […]
5 Tips to Telling Great Customer Stories
The headline for one of my most successful LinkedIn posts in 2021 was “How do we help customers tell better stories about their success when advocating on our behalf?” At the time, I led a Client Success Partner team and needed to prepare for sales presentations on the topic of customer advocacy. The post returned a lot of responses that were very helpful — they shifted how I approach storytelling and advocacy. Here are my five takeaways from that post: Make the story about a character When I read Income From Outcomes author Paul Henderson’s comment on my post, “Our champions should not have to tell the success story. We should do that. It’s part of a Hero/Heroine program,” it really stood out to me […]
#HRTechChat: 3Sixty Insights Shares its Takeaways from the HR Technology Conference & Expo
For those of you who don’t know, Jen Dole has joined the team at 3Sixty Insights as director and principal analyst to dive deep into talent management. Jen and I go back a little bit. The week before last, at HR Technology Conference & Expo, was the first time we saw each other face to face since the first time she and I met. When was that? It was when we were both at Cornerstone. Working in different divisions, we ran into each other at LAX on our way to the company’s 20th anniversary celebration in Palm Springs, Calif., and got to chatting. Later, Jen and I began to talk shop a bit more after she joined Fuel50, which is where she was most recently. […]
The Changing Definition of Success
We all have different ideas of what success looks like. In a recent LinkedIn post, I asked, “What does success mean to you?” The results were not surprising – 10% of votes were for achieving your goals, 47% of votes were for making a difference, and 43% of votes were for being happy and fulfilled. With the experience of the last few years, more and more people are rethinking what success looks like. In the past, success was often defined by things like job title, salary, and level of education. While those things are still important to many people, they are no longer the only things that matter. Nowadays, more and more people are focused on making a difference and being happy and fulfilled. They […]
How can businesses find the right balance between empathy and efficiency?
There is often a trade-off between doing what’s best for the company and doing what’s best for employees. Oftentimes, this means sacrificing empathy in order to be more efficient. While this may not seem like an issue on the surface, research has shown that when companies focus too much on efficiency, they can actually hurt employee productivity and engagement. “We may think that by putting on a tough exterior and pushing ourselves harder, we are achieving more,” shares Karen, an executive in Human Resources. “But in reality, this approach often has the opposite effect, alienating those around us and reducing our productivity in the long run.” By sacrificing our empathy for efficiency, we not only impair our relationships, but we also miss out on […]
Health and Wellbeing Have a Big Impact on Careers
According to the Women @ Work 2022 by Deloitte, a survey of 5,000 women across 10 countries, more than half of the women are more stressed than a year ago. In addition, 46% of the women surveyed feel burned out. This widespread burnout fueled by rising stress levels is worrying. Burnout has become a common problem in today’s society and workplaces. We are constantly being bombarded with more information and new technologies, which has led to an “always on” culture. This has caused many people to feel overwhelmed and stressed out. The constant pressure to be productive can take its toll on our mental and physical health, leading to burnout. So what can we do to address this issue? While there is no one-size-fits-all answer, […]
