A guide for the savvy and smart individuals who want to leverage the power of artificial intelligence without losing their mind.

Introduction

If you’re reading this, chances are you’ve heard of artificial intelligence (AI) or have at least tried using it. You know, the technology that can do amazing things like write code, chat with you, or even beat you at chess. You might be wondering how you can use AI to help you in your daily life, whether it’s for work, entertainment, or education. Well, you’re in luck because I’m going to share some tips and tricks on how to use AI to help you, and not the other way around. Because, let’s face it, AI is not perfect, and sometimes it can be frustrating, confusing, or even hilarious. So, how do you make the most of AI without losing your sanity? Read on to find out.

The key to success: Train your brain

This is a common problem that many people face when they use AI tools for the first time. They expect AI to understand their intentions, follow their instructions, and produce the results they want. But this is not how AI works, at least not yet. AI is still learning, and it can make mistakes, lead to misunderstandings, or bring on surprises. So, instead of getting frustrated or angry, you need to adjust your mindset and expectations. You need to train your brain to use AI as a partner.

What does this mean? It means that you need to be open-minded, curious, and flexible when you use AI tools. You need to see them as sources of inspiration, feedback, and collaboration, not as a replacement for you. You need to let go of your preconceptions, assumptions, and goals, and embrace the possibilities, challenges, and opportunities that AI offers. You need to experiment, explore, and learn from AI, not just use it.

This might sound hard, but it can also be fun and rewarding. By training your brain to use AI in a different way, you can unlock your creativity, productivity, and learning potential. You can discover new things, solve new problems, and create new value. You can have more fun, satisfaction, and confidence.

So, next time you use an AI tool, don’t get frustrated if it doesn’t do what you want. Instead, try to see what it can do, and what you can do with it.

Treat the AI tool as a baby that’s just started to giggle, now let’s train this baby to be a grownup through baby steps.

Every time you touch your keyboard to do a task, for example, answer an email, create a summary slide, just ask yourself, can AI do it?

Ask CoPilot to create a summary slide for your slide deck or ask CoPilot to answer an email which has a very negative tone, ask ChatGPT to rephrase your very negative comment into a positive comment in virtual meetings before you say something that you might regret later.

Train your brain to use AI, and you’ll be amazed by what you can achieve. Try different prompts to get to the results you are expecting. This will help you learn how to ask the right question for AI to quickly deliver what you want.

Here are some tips that can help you get started exploring the possibilities with AI, especially with GenAI.

Tip #1: Choose the right AI tool for the right task

One of the first things you need to do is to choose the right AI tool for the right task. There are many AI tools out there, and they have different strengths and weaknesses. For example, if you want to write a blog post, you might want to use CoPilot, an AI assistant that can generate code snippets based on your comments. CoPilot can help you save time and avoid errors, but it can also produce some weird or wrong code that you need to check and edit. On the other hand, if you want to have a casual conversation, you might want to use ChatGPT, an AI chatbot that can respond to your messages with witty and humorous replies. ChatGPT can help you have fun and relax, but it can also say some nonsensical or inappropriate things that you need to ignore or laugh off.

The key is to know what you want to achieve, and what AI tool can help you do that. Don’t expect AI to do everything for you, or to do it perfectly. AI is not a magic wand, it’s a tool. And like any tool, it has its limitations and quirks. So, choose wisely, and use it wisely.

Tip #2: Trust your brain, not the AI

Another thing you need to do is to trust your brain, not the AI. AI is smart, but it’s not smarter than you. You have something that AI doesn’t have: a human brain. A human brain that can think critically, creatively, and ethically. A human brain that can understand context, nuance, and emotion. A human brain that can learn from experience, feedback, and mistakes. A human brain that can make decisions, take actions, and take responsibility.

So, don’t let AI take over your brain, or your life. Don’t blindly follow what AI says or does, without questioning or verifying it. Don’t rely on AI to do everything for you, without learning or improving yourself. Don’t let AI make you lazy, complacent, or arrogant. Instead, use AI to enhance your brain, and your life. Use AI to help you do things faster, easier, or better. Use AI to help you discover new things, explore new possibilities, or solve new problems. Use AI to help you have more fun, more joy, or more meaning. But always remember, the key ingredient to the recipe is your brain. Your brain is the boss, not the AI.

Tip #3: Have fun with AI, but don’t take it too seriously

The last thing you need to do is to have fun with AI, but don’t take it too seriously. AI is amazing, but it’s also amusing. AI can do incredible things, but it can also do hilarious things. AI can surprise you, but it can also disappoint you. AI can impress you, but it can also embarrass you. AI can be your friend, but it can also be your foe. AI can be your helper, but it can also be your hindrance.

So, don’t take AI too seriously, or too personally. Don’t get too attached, or too detached. Don’t get too angry, or too sad. Don’t get too obsessed, or too bored. Don’t get too stressed, or too relaxed. Just have fun with AI and enjoy the ride. Because, at the end of the day, AI is just a technology, and you are just a human. A human who can use AI to help you, and not the other way around.

Get excited and give it a go!

AI is a powerful and fascinating technology that can help you in many ways. Remember, AI was always here, and now with GenAI tools like CoPilot, ChatGPT, it has been humanized and is no longer boring or complicated. But it’s not perfect, and it’s not human. So, how do you use AI to help you, and not the other way around? Here are the three tips I shared with you:

  • Choose the right AI tool for the right task
  • Trust your brain, not the AI
  • Have fun with AI, while figuring out how to achieve the expected results

I hope you found this post useful. I’d love to hear from you. How do you use AI?

Happy AI-ing
