How changing our perspective can help us overcome challenges

Have you ever faced a problem that seems impossible to solve? A problem that is so complex, dynamic, and interconnected that it defies any conventional approach? A problem that keeps coming back or getting worse no matter what you do? If you have, then you have encountered a wicked problem.

Wicked problems are those that have no clear definition, no definitive solution, and no objective measure of success. They are often social or environmental issues that involve multiple stakeholders, conflicting values, and uncertain outcomes.

How can we deal with such problems? How can we find creative and effective ways to address them? How can we avoid getting stuck or frustrated by them? One powerful tool that I use to tackle wicked problems is asking “What if” questions.

“What if” questions are simple but profound. They help us to challenge our assumptions, explore new possibilities, and imagine different scenarios. They help us to see the problem from a different angle, rather than being trapped in our own perspective. They help us to shift from a reactive mode to a proactive mode, from a victim mindset to a creator mindset.

“What if” questions are also fun and exciting. They stimulate our curiosity, creativity, and imagination. They invite us to play with ideas, experiment with alternatives, and discover new insights. They inspire us to dream big, take risks, and learn from failures.

I love wicked problems because they stretch my imagination, creativity, strengths, and highlight my weaknesses to me. “What if” questions help me to embrace wicked problems as opportunities for growth, innovation, and transformation. They help me to create value for myself and others, rather than being overwhelmed by complexity and uncertainty.

Let’s start our “What If” journey and as a community, challenge ourselves to question differently to tackle our problems in diverse domains, such as HR systems implementation and adoption, and more. I would love to hear from you on your tips and tricks to resolve these issues, start a conversation, spark a debate, or generate a solution. I hope that you will join me in this journey of asking “What if” and see how it can change our perception, our action, and our impact together.
