Research Agenda: The 3Sixty Insights Human Capital Management Themes for 2023

Every domain of human capital management (HCM), it seems, has been tinged by fresh attitudes and new charters. As we enter a post-pandemic kind of HCM, we see employers big and small pursuing global employee mobility and chasing an ever better, ever expanding experience for their employees. Entire market niches have seen the demand for them continue to grow rapidly. An apt example, the employer of record (EOR) business model facilitates global employee mobility and can be tantamount to protecting the employee experience as organizations quickly expand globally. Meanwhile, HR’s seat at the table of organizational leadership seems finally within reach as the state of the art of technology for HCM equips HR practitioners (and line managers) with the tools and data they need to […]

Paying and Getting Paid — The Future Is Already Out of the Barn

“I want it all, and I want it now!” belted the late, great Freddie Mercury on a criminally underrated song by the rock band Queen. Was he channeling typical first world consumers and employees from some four decades into the future? He might as well have been. People these days, not all of them want it all, truly, but most seem to want whatever it is they do want, now. They expect every accommodation. Leeway and speed are what they want. They want what they buy to arrive as soon as possible. They want to pay in the easiest way available, in a way most accommodating to their needs and wants. And they want the pay they’ve earned so far, right now — not in […]

Josep Elias - CloudPay

3Sixty Insights #HRTechChat with Josep Elias, Chief Strategy Officer at CloudPay

This was an especially illuminating episode of #HRTechChat. Chief Strategy Officer Josep Elias joined our video podcast to discuss the company’s new offering for earned wage access (EWA), CloudPay NOW. EWA is another term for on-demand pay, and CloudPay NOW is “the only earned wage access solution that can be deployed in 130+ countries,” the company’s website notes. Interestingly, CloudPay is bucking the trend in on-demand pay by targeting the entire world (or most of it, anyway). Much of the growth in EWA of late has been in the United States, but EY estimates that “a total of approximately $1 trillion is accrued in employer payroll accounts on any given day,” as noted in a report published in September 2020. That report by EY is […]

The Road to Global Payroll

The road to global payroll is paved with reactions. Let’s add that it’s paved also with good intentions. We all know where those lead, and an unaddressed global payroll process won’t exactly take you there, but the ride can be rough. This is why, for most organizations, the journey to well-sorted global payroll is long and winding — and bumpy. It is the exceedingly rare employer that sets the table to process global payroll in an efficient way the very first time the need to process global payroll arises. This is what I’ve learned, anyway, from lengthy discussions with executives in this industry. No, almost to the very last one, organizations that become global pretty much never outsource it promptly; instead, they do their best, […]

Richard Limpkin - Immedis - Thumbnail

3Sixty Insights #HRTechChat with Richard Limpkin, Chief Product Officer at Immedis

Joining us for this episode of the 3Sixty Insights #HRTechChat is Richard Limpkin, chief product officer at Dublin, Ireland-based global payroll provider Immedis. Richard and I spoke at length a couple times prior this. The insights we unearthed in those conversations were intriguing and, fortunately, the podcast captured the gist of these ideas as we reiterated previously covered ground. When you think about it, payroll is perhaps the most concrete and most abstract aspect of human capital management. On the one hand, it’s an indisputable number of outgoing money every one or two weeks (for some organizations, once monthly). Mess with that number or its delivery, and an organization can very quickly have a mutiny on its hands as job satisfaction suffers an acute, palpable […]

David Barak | CloudPay

3Sixty Insights #HRTechChat with David Barak, Chief Marketing Officer of CloudPay

For the latest episode of the 3Sixty Insights #HRTechChat video podcast, my guest was David Barak, chief marketing officer of CloudPay. Through a unified cloud platform, CloudPay provides managed global payroll in more than 130 countries. The company also offers treasury services across this geographic footprint. Here’s a sampling of the ideas we covered: Virtually no employer ever really, truly plans for global payroll in advance. At some point, most organizations that get large enough and global enough get to a place where their company-wide payroll is practically unmanageable. This becomes the official outset of a typically three-stage process that eventually gets them to a straightforward scenario wherein their global payroll is under control and working for, not against, them. The journey there is almost […]
