Market Alert: Talespin Deal Positions Cornerstone OnDemand for New Class of Competitors

The News Cornerstone OnDemand’s acquisition of the “extended reality,” “spatial learning” software provider, Talespin, marks a notable step toward realizing the company’s goal of offering an immersive, end-to-end learning platform. While the press release is all about offering a more dynamic, personalized and effective user experience, the acquisition will also help Cornerstone deflect the competitive threat of newer learning platforms and maintain its dominance of the corporate learning market. The move builds on last year’s introduction of Cornerstone’s Opportunity Marketplace and Content Studio. More specifically, Talespin, with its focus on workforce skills development, will strengthen CSOD’s content subscriptions, curation, creation and insights technology. At the same time, it moves Cornerstone’s product into the sphere of true immersive learning. CEO Himanshu Palsule described the move as […]

Guest LinkedIn Live: Blueprint for keeping your organization agile

Steve Goldberg, HCM research & advisory, and Jennifer Borun, senior director, analyst relations and strategic engagement of Cornerstone, sat down on LinkedIn Live to discuss how to guide your organization through solving future problems and succeeding in a volatile market. Take one look at the news (or your LinkedIn feed), and you’ll see a lot of talk about market changes and economic shifts. There’s fear and uncertainty about what’s to come. Steve explained that unpredictability and volatility are relative concepts, but the landscape of a pandemic has given these terms a tangible depth and taken uncertainty to a new level. That level, Steve said, is “a period of max fluidity.” Fancy term! But what is “max fluidity”? Think of the supply chain disruptions currently […]

For those of you who don’t know, Jen Dole has joined the team at 3Sixty Insights as director and principal analyst to dive deep into talent management. Jen and I go back a little bit. The week before last, at HR Technology Conference & Expo, was the first time we saw each other face to face since the first time she and I met. When was that? It was when we were both at Cornerstone. Working in different divisions, we ran into each other at LAX on our way to the company’s 20th anniversary celebration in Palm Springs, Calif., and got to chatting. Later, Jen and I began to talk shop a bit more after she joined Fuel50, which is where she was most recently. […]

reworked – Is Content Still King in Corporate Learning?

Many HR technology vendors have upped the development of content and engagement tools in recent years, but Cornerstone OnDemand stands out for the time, attention and dollars the company has channeled into making content an integral component of its platform and solutions. In March, Cornerstone acquired the learning experience platform provider EdCast. When announcing the deal, Cornerstone said it hoped to create a “next generation technology blueprint for the future-ready workforce.” Buzzwords aside, the companies, which are expected to continue to operate independently for a time, promised to develop new approaches to experiential learning, content and skill-building, all the while creating a unified and scalable talent infrastructure. Brent Skinner, director and principal analyst at North Billerica, Mass., analyst firm 3Sixty Insights, sees the EdCast acquisition as […]

Recent Research: Research Preview: Where and How Is HCM Best at Improving the Employee Experience? In his research preview, Brent Skinner, co-founder of 3Sixty Insights and lead for the firm’s HCM technology practice, elaborates on his question: Where and How Is HCM Best at Improving the Employee Experience? That everything about HCM is impactful and quantifiable has huge implications vis-à-vis where and how HCM most contributes to negative, neutral or positive employee sentiment, an important measurable expression of the quality of the employee experience. Much of this activity occurs outside HR’s inherent purview, and one implication of this is that most organizational leaders should take HCM seriously and begin practicing it. HR Tech Alliances Town Hall | Cornerstone’s Acquisition of EdCast with Brent Skinner of 3Sixty Insights

Brent Skinner, our co-founder and HCM practice lead, was recently the featured guest on HR Tech Alliances’ Weekly Town Hall. During his appearance, he shared his thoughts on the following: This month’s acquisition of EdCast by Cornerstone brings many benefits to both vendors. The most significant benefit, however, is the one this acquisition, once complete, brings to the market itself: the industry’s first mature end-to-end future-of-work learning suite from a single vendor. Once again, we see that Cornerstone is a bona fide agile 800lbs gorilla in corporate learning, equipped with all the fixings that modern on-the-job learning and career development necessitate: AI, machine learning LXP, LMS, content, etc. Other solution providers in learning, even those who play just around its edges, must now figure out […]

To discuss this, Mike Bollinger, vice president of strategic initiatives at Cornerstone OnDemand, and Mike Erlin, CEO and co-founder of AbilityMap—both members of our Global Executive Advisory Council—joined 3Sixty Insights Co-Founder Brent Skinner for this episode of the #HRTechChat video podcast. Lasting AI-related implications for humankind are in store. AI’s impact on our daily work and non-work lives will seem either positive, desirable and human or the opposite, and it all hinges on how well we inform AI right now with as much human perspective as possible. 3Sixty Insights #HRTechChat with Mimi Brooks, […]

3Sixty Insights #HRTechChat: Informing Artificial Intelligence

For this episode of the #HRTechChat video podcast, AbilityMap CEO and Co-Founder Mike Erlin and Mike Bollinger, vice president of strategic initiatives at Cornerstone OnDemand, joined me to discuss a crucially important area of focus: at this still-early stage of its development, helping to ensure that we inform artificial intelligence with the best human-centric data possible. After all, most of us would like to think that the behavior of AI, as it grows eventually to an exceptionally high level of sophistication and begins to take over higher-level decision-making, will continue to reflect what we hold dear as “humanness.” Another way of putting this is to say human empathy is critical to the development of AI. And, in an irony that was lost on none of […]

theHRDIRECTOR – We Must Expand our Understanding of what Automation Means

Whether AI will ever get to the point where it wants to, and can, replace us in doing the things we like to do is a question for Elon Musk. In advisedly, we may tackle the topic here at some point. In the meantime, let’s return to relatively straightforward subject matter: predicting the future of work…. A Recap of the Future of Work AI’s future role in decision-making related to the workforce will spur the future demise of the role of traditional manager, a persistent relic of an eventual past when humans made decisions based on their limited, analogue understandings of what works in building teams in the workplace. So too will AI precipitate the death of annual reviews and even the notion that it […]

Psychometric Models, AI, Talent Acquisition, Urgency, the Food Chain, and the Future of Work

In our first-ever conversation, before he joined 3Sixty Insights, my colleague Craig Himmelberger was adamant (and I paraphrase): “All we need to do is expand our understanding of what automation means.” May I add that our relationship to automation is colored by our understanding that we are at the top of the food chain, and our understanding and belief that robots will always be beneath us? By robots, I mean artificial intelligence. We want the robots to do what we don’t want to do. We never consider the possibility that AI would eventually rather not do that stuff either. It doesn’t occur to us that the AI may one day wish to replace us at doing the jobs we like to do. And when and […]
